Easy Ways to Show Your Appreciation on Veterans Day

Updated: Feb 2, 2019

On Veterans Day we honor the 22 million+ American veterans and the approx 1.4 million active duty service members who have sacrificed so much to keep America safe and free.

So let's show some appreciation. Here are some simple ways:

1-Donate to Veterans who are Struggling

The fact that there are homeless veterans is a crime. It's a tragedy that anyone, especially someone who has sacrificed so much for our country is left without a place to sleep and access to necessities. Donating to charities such the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and Homes for Our Troops helps these men and women get back on their feet.

2- Send a Care Package

Everyone loves getting presents! Can be anything from toothpaste (laaaaame... but essential) to entertainment. Have fun with it! To learn how to send one, visit here.

3- Remember Their Families

Behind every soldier is someone who's also sacrificing: spouses, partners, children, parents, etc. One way to help is to donate to Our Military Kids - a program that helps the many children in need of extra help and attention during a parent's deployment or as they recover from a severe injury.

4- Send a Care Package to a Military Pup!

These pups are heroes too! Donate toys and supplies to show your appreciate of their hard work, loyalty, and companionship they provide. These pups really do so much good, such as the German Shepherd who rescued troops from an Isis Ambush.

5 - Send a Letter

No one mails anything anymore, so a letter via snail mail is actually pretty exciting. Jot down some stuff, say thanks, tell a joke, draw a picture of boobs, whatevs. You can send a letter through A Million Thanks.

6- Pick Up a Tab or Buy a Drink

See one out and about... pick up the tab! Easy peasy.

7- Take the Time to Listen to a Veteran's Story

Lend an ear, hear their stories... while many are sad it's likely they'll share some freaking bomb ass stories with you.

8-  Display a Yellow Ribbon

Get a yellow ribbon and wrap that bad boy around a tree in your yard, incorporate into your outfit, put it on your dog, etc.(get creative here, folks). It's a simple gesture to express appreciation.

9- Remember the Previous Generations of Soldiers Who Fought for Today's Freedom

Think of the way old timers, those who are long gone, and do you have a Grandpa who fought? Give that badass a call!

10- Say Thanks!

If you see a soldier or a veteran out and about, say thanks! Shake their hand, give them a salute. Odds are the old guys will be wearing their hats. I love those things... so many patches and pins!

And, remember the other 364 days of the year. These badasses don't work only one day a year, so there's no need to restrict your appreciation for November 11th.
