Octopus Escapes Aquarium Tank, Crawls Across Floor and Slides Down Pipe to the Ocean

Go, Inky, Go! You're free. Free at last!

The beloved octopus at a New Zealand aquarium is now roaming the Pacific Ocean - and one more thing is now right in the world.

Inky escaped through a small gap in his enclosure at the National Aquarium in the coastal city of Napier. He then slid across the floor and found a six inch drain pipe that led to the sea.

Aquarium manager Rob Yarrall said the tank's lid was left slightly ajar following maintenance work. “He managed to make his way to one of the drain holes that go back to the ocean and off he went—didn't even leave us a message,” he told Radio New Zealand.

Few lessons we can learn from Inky:

  • Octopuses/Octopti are really smart

  • Dreams can come true
